The Academy Awards

The Academy Awards

March 7, 2010

Since its inception in 1929, The Academy Awards has become the event of the year for film followers worldwide. A celebration of all things cinematic, the presentation of the iconic gold Oscar statuettes to members of the film community for excellence during the year represents the highest honor in filmmaking. The Oscars is one of the only awards ceremonies that have never been cancelled.

The 2010 ceremony will again take place at the Kodak Theater at Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network.

In 2010, watch for 10 major Hollywood films to be nominated for best picture, this in a clever move by the Academy to further popularize the Oscars with a wider audience. The inclusion of major blockbusters (such as last year’s Wall-E or The Dark Knight – NOT nominated for best picture) may definitely up the ante for reviewers busy compiling their Top 10 contenders (up from 5).

Meanwhile, expect the full official roster of nominees to be announced on February 2, 2010 — along with updates on the latest buzz, rumors and Tinsel Town gossip as awards night draws near. Although nominees won’t be officially announced until February, watch for lots of news on the latest crop of Hollywood hits that will continue to generate buzz throughout the entire awards season.
